Frequently asked questions and answers

Who should NOT be yoni steaming?

Women who are pregnant, or think there is any possibility that they might be, should NOT do any type of steam. Doing so may abort/terminate the pregnancy, as many of the herbs used can alter hormone levels and can cause contractions of the uterus. Women also should not steam while menstruating or when open sores or blisters are present.

Can Men steam too?

Yes! Men are no strangers to taking time to steam and it comes with many benefits as it would for the wombmen. Please see the P-steam for men session.

What should I expect after doing the steam?

Naturally the wombman's cycle is supposed to come every 28-30 days the number of days it takes the moon to circle around the earth this is why most wombmen refer to the menstrual as Moon cycle.

The menstrual cycle can and will change after doing vaginal steaming. Often, with the help of the herb blend and steam that enters into the inside of your womb, which is expelled after doing the yoni steam. This is due to the herbs powerful effect on the uterus, removing much of what is stuck with is stagnation of old blood. In result sometime your flow will be very heavy, dark and thick for just a day or two, and other times it just extends the length of your period to get it all out. Ultimately, your next period will be much lighter and more pleasant than ever before. Other than feeling relaxed and pampered, you should not expect to see results immediately after the steam.

I noticed discharge or bleeding after I yoni steamed. What  Does this mean?

If you have a lot of stagnation (stuck material) inside your uterus, it may feel that it wants to come out this is where the herbal steam may immediately help to loosen it. This could result in the uterine lining shedding (opening) which would, of course, mean bleeding, even if it is not the usual time of the month. Don’t be alarmed, even if a lot of material comes out over the next few days.

I experienced cramps after yoni steaming. Why would this be?

Don’t be alarmed this is normal it is the herbs and the lining of your uterine walls doing its job to remove stagnation (stuck material) and there is likely a great deal of material left over from past cycles that need to be released. With the support of the herbs, your uterus will begin to work hard to release the stuck material. By default, your uterus contracts when it works, this could cause some discomfort in the short term, this is normal no need to worry! Keeping a regular steaming routine your cycles should be more in line with the moon.

Does yoni steam really work?

For generations, wombmym have pasted down healing practice among one another in ways as a ritual’s and as a rite of passage for man and wombmym. It is believed that because of this, there will always be those who doubt practice that is not proven by modern science and the fact that many Indigenous/aboriginal peoples have been steaming as a way of healing after postpartum and just everyday wombmym health has proven to work.

My doctor told me not to try vaginal steaming. Why would this be?

Because the lack of knowledge and understanding many Western medical doctors may be resistant to the idea of vaginal steaming. This is not because the treatment is dangerous or ineffective. It is simply because this is an ancient remedy that is not taught in medical schools, and there are no scientific studies to "prove" its effectiveness, and Western doctors often feel unwelcome and uncomfortable with ideal/concepts of steaming. However, more people are traveling to other countries that have been practice this old tradition for centuries and due to the Prisoners of war (Man slave trade), many of the wombmym in The America’s have performed similar ritual like a Sitz bath.

When is the best time of the month to steam?

You can steam at any time of the month, as long as you are not menstruating. Speak with your Vaginal Practitioner and they will determine how many steams you should have. It is typically recommended that for treating menstrual pain, you do you at least two vaginal steams in the week leading up to your period. After doing so, you will likely see a change in the fluid you pass when your period begins. You may also steam after your moon cycle ends, to clear out any excess materials.

How long after birth should I wait to steam?

We recommend waiting until you are no longer bleeding before steaming. Spotting, with dark-colored blood, is okay. Obviously, in cases of extreme bleeding or hemorrhaging, steaming would be contraindicated. Women who choose to do their first steam 4 or more months after giving birth often report getting their first cycle, even while still breastfeeding.

I am struggling with fertility challenges. Can yoni steaming help?

Yes! Yoni steaming has been seen by many women to support fertility. There may be many reasons for fertility challenges, but one of those reasons is induration (Stagnation build-up ) on the uterine wall. Yoni steaming helps to loosen that material and allow it to release through menstruation, making space for the fertilized egg to successfully attach itself. It is recommended to steam at least once per week, when you are not menstruating, for three months before expecting to see results. Do not try to conceive during the 3 months of yoni steam, as the cleansing action may prevent the fertilized egg from attaching to the uterine wall. After the 3 months of yoni steaming you may resume trying to conceive and hopefully, have successful within one to three cycles.

How is vaginal seaming beneficial for women pre- or post-menopause?

Yoni steaming is a wonderful treatment for pre and post-menopausal women, as it may help shed excess uterine stagnation by way the steam contains herbs that are specifically combined together to help cleanse the entire reproductive system and help shred anything that is built up inside the uterus. Wombmen experiencing menopause should still steam at least three times per year, and that likely, the material will come out every time. Many women have reported that steaming helped with vaginal dryness, internal discomfort, and pain during intercourse.
